En parte, esto se debe a que, como dec\u00eda el lema de Motown Records: \"It's What's in the Grooves that Counts\"(\u201cLo que importa es lo que hay en los surcos\u201d), lo que implicaba un enfoque claro en el negocio. Por las noches, sol\u00edan tocar jazz en los clubes de la ciudad para liberar la presi\u00f3n de las exigentes sesiones de estudio, y esas inspiraciones nocturnas se incorporaban a las producciones del d\u00eda siguiente. Daban color a las grabaciones, a\u00f1adiendo nuevas dimensiones musicales a cada canci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n participaban en eventos en vivo organizados por la discogr\u00e1fica para apoyar los actos de sus artistas y, en ocasiones, colaboraban con otros sellos.
