At the last International Record Fair, held in Barcelona over the weekend of October 2–4, 2026, I had the good fortune to cross paths with a free spirit named Amandine. It was one of those chance encounters I like to call causalidad — a meeting that seems to happen for a reason. She was looking for a record that holds a great deal of emotional value for me: Lauryn Hill – MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. I pointed her in the right direction, and off she went.
A little later, she came back to my stand, wearing that pure, transparent, radiant smile of an inner child who has just found exactly what she was looking for. I felt fortunate to be there and share that moment. She then told me she was an artist and had just released her own musical project, Mandie Rules. She even gifted me one of her CDs. Surprised and genuinely grateful for her generosity, I replied, “I’m going to give it a listen and get back to you with my feedback.” We shared a hug that sealed the moment.
Once I get back home and had finally had a chance to unwind, I opened her CD, gave it a proper listen, and wrote the following:

Some records are simply there to be heard. Others invite you to step inside them and truly experience them. This one, without a doubt, belongs to the latter.
From the opening track to the very last note, you get the feeling of stepping into a deeply intimate universe, built on a rare kind of honesty and a sensitivity that runs through every second of the album. This is not just a collection of songs; it is a body of work conceived as a sonic journey, where every element finds its place and contributes to the bigger picture.
One of the most striking aspects is the songwriting. Each track holds a little piece of contemporary poetry, written from a place of lived experience, vulnerability, and reflection. There are no gimmicks or empty phrases here. Every word feels carefully chosen to convey something real, something felt.
But if the compositions move you on the page, it is the vocal performance that ultimately turns them into something extraordinary. Amandine has a voice of her own, with a deeply personal character and the ability to move between languages without ever losing her identity. Each language reveals a different shade of her personality: the rawness and intensity of her soul when she sings in English, the almost contemplative serenity of French, and the delicate vulnerability of Spanish. There are echoes of artists such as Bebe, Amy Winehouse, and Lauryn Hill, to name a few, but never imitation. These influences emerge naturally, absorbed into a voice that has found its own language.
Musically, the album stands out for its remarkable versatility. Rather than settling into a single genre, each song finds the sound that best speaks to its message. The compositions move freely between different styles without losing their coherence, creating a sonic journey in which the arrangements never compete for attention. Instead, they embrace the voice and bring the emotional weight of the lyrics to the surface.
Special mention must go to the musicians involved in the project. The level of musicianship is outstanding, but what really matters is the sense of connection they bring to the table. Everything seems to breathe at the same tempo, as though every instrument instinctively knows exactly how much space it needs to give the song room to grow.
And then there is the production, which is simply impeccable. The recording has a clarity and warmth that allow every nuance to come through, from the most subtle details in the instrumentation to the emotional weight of each performance. This is one of those records that deserves to be heard through a good pair of headphones or on a sound system capable of revealing all the little details hidden in the mix.
What ultimately sets this work apart from so many others is the feeling that you are listening to something deeply personal. There is time, dedication, sensitivity, and a clear pursuit of excellence behind every artistic decision. Everything has been handled with care and attention: the songs, the arrangements, the production, the collaborations, and even the visual identity surrounding the project. Nothing feels accidental.
In an age dominated by quick releases and instant consumption, there is something particularly valuable about finding an album that dares to slow things down and build a complete experience. A body of work that invites you to listen, listen again, and discover new shades and details with every spin.
And then comes the track “I’m Not Alone.”
Amandine had warned me that this was one of the album’s defining moments. She was right. For a few minutes, the song manages to suspend time itself, leaving the listener completely present, with a heart full and goosebumps running down their skin. One of those rare pieces that, all by itself, makes you want to put the whole album back on from the beginning.
This record is not trying to impress you with fireworks. Its greatest strength lies elsewhere: in its ability to move you through honesty and truth. And these days, that is probably the greatest achievement of all.
Congratulations, Amandine. Keep creating, keep growing, and keep expressing yourself through the infinite, unfiltered world of your Mandie Rules. Because what you create truly embraces the spirit…
